Hello world!

The name refers to the tales I tell and my typing speed.

At this point I can only lay out my hopes for this blog, which are that it will accurately reflect my interests.  At the moment, those interests are: electoral politics, politics in general, religion, whodunits, whodunit authors, and sports.

I am a political progressive.  I am an unenrolled voter, which I take to mean that I can vote in the Republican primary against a candidate who I find particularly obnoxious.  In general, I think that liberal candidates tend to do a better job in office than do conservatives.

I think that the conservative “movement” is in a coma and am rather sad about that.  Conservatism has no ideas.  “Conservatives” don’t speak about ideas or concepts anymore.  They merely trash liberals.  Ann Coulter, Jonah Goldbergh, Rush Limbaugh make their livings ridiculing liberals.  They seldom if ever add anything positive to the national debate.  And they look like intellectual philosophers compared to Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham.

Religiously, I favor the personal over the institutional.  Most of the important questions of life can’t be definitively answered: they are matters of belief, and hence are religious.  Therefore, all religion is personal.  This personal religion is defined by what a person is taught in church and in school, and by what a person learns from experience.  I have no problem with any organized church or religion, per se,  but I am aware that  most churches have caused an awful lot of harm throughout history.
