Just finished “No Way to Treat a First Lady” by Christopher Buckley. Buckley is the son of William Buckley and worked for National Journal until just recently. He wrote an article praising Obama for something, and “Resigned volunarily” shortly thereafter.
The Book starts with the President of the USA in the Lincoln Bedroom, having sex with a movie star. Then he says goodnight to her and tries to sneak into his own bed without his wife noticing. He is spectacularly unsuccessful and the two of them get into a dramatic fight, where she throws a Paul Revere silver spittoon at him, successfully. In the morning, a steward delivers her customary breakfast in bed and notices that the President is dead.
This sets up an almost classic “locked room” puzzle- the Secret Service is better than a padlock, any day.
The First Lady is then indicted for murder, and she hires a famous lawyer whose nickname is “Shameless”.
Its a pretty good courtroom mystery, but it’s even a better comic satire on morals, politics, the law, and the media.
