The Silly Season, Part 2
August is the silly season in American public life. Everybody is on vacation except the consumers.
One of the silliest stories of this season is the campaign to change the 14th Amendment. A new amendment is hard to pass. Not only does it have to pass the House and the Senate with super majorities. It has to be approved by 38 states. The Equal Rights Amendment couldn’t pass muster. Anti-Abortion activists have had 37 years to pass an amendment which would nullify the right of privacy, and haven’t even come close.
The USA is facing problems, but “anchor babies” aren’t even in the top ten. This “issue” will dissolve on Labor Day.
