About
I expect that this site will be a chronicle of a semi-disciplined mind. It will be about what interested me at the time I wrote the blog.
I am a baby boomer. In my life, I have worked as a sexton, steelworker, dishwasher, security guard, social worker, community organizer, printer, bookkeeper, sheet-metal worker, software developer, application programmer, programmer/analyst, and pizza driver, and tutor.
I’d think it would be neat if my next job was as a writer. For most of my life, I have read whodunits for recreation. Only in the past year or so have I read them critically. Now, I read them to see how a writer assembles the basic elements of a story (setting, character, plot, etc) to create a puzzle to tease a reader.
A good whodunit is a good novel. It should involve the reader in the situation and create concern for the characters. It should also go beyond the subject and say something about the human condition.
My hope is that eventually I will have enough book reviews and author analyses that I can spin off another blog – maybe one called “Schadey Characters.” But for the moment, this blog will be a mishmash.
